NORTHIAM BONFIRE 2015 'Best ever'
Over 2,000 people attended our third Bonfire Procession and Fireworks in October. This was twice as many as our event in 2014. The rain waited until the first firework, but it failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd who had enjoyed the spectacle of 11 Bonfire Societies and four drumming groups parading down Main Street. The procession paused a moment as the poppy was lit at the War Memorial before continuing its noisy way into the village and back for a huge bonfire and spectacular firework display. Locals have praised the way the society has brought back a bit of fun and excitement for all ages.
The 2016 procession and fireworks will be on Saturday 8th October - make sure you put the date in your diary.
Bonfire Society says 'Thank you'
In January the Bonfire Society held it’s annual ‘Thank You’ evening at the Rose & Crown. This is an opportunity the thank all those people who help make our bonfire night such a success. It was also the evening when we give out the money from the street collection Our local good causes last year were Jasmine Lodge, Northiam Scouts and the Village Hall Trust .
Our previous years collections have gone to:
2014 Mary Shipstone Memorial Fund, School Crossing Patrol, Thursday Seniors’ Club
2013 Northiam Scout Group, Frewen College, Northiam Pre-School, Raynet, Rye & District Lions, St Mary’s Church Centre
