First, a little history concerning us, bonfire and a guy called Guido…..
Under the reign of King Henry the V111, the church of England was founded,
each church by royal order had to have a bible and all that could, had a right to read it, so far so good……
Bloody Mary, Henrys daughter had other ideas about this, all the work that Henry and his son, Edward did was about to be destroyed……by fire……..
The tables turned again and again, we move forward to 1603, James 1 is King of England, by 1604, people were beginning to plot his demise, Guido Fawkes was the ring leader of this gunpowder plot, and after filling the cellars under the houses of parliament with casks of black powder, he waited with a lighted lantern to finish the king and his parliament……
Midnight, November the 4th, it all went rather pear shaped for Guido, he was found, and, with eleven other plotters they were all killed one way or another, none of the ways were very nice……
1606. Parliament passed an act to declare November the 5th as a day of joyful deliverance.
Together with the dark religious struggle and Guy Fawkes’ attempt at the gunpowder plot, I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot……..
